Carson Catches Heat That Obama Dodged Over Similar Comments

Quite a stink was raised recently by a number of liberal celebrities, politicians and institutions regarding remarks made by Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Dr. Ben Carson during a speech in which he seemed to equate African slaves brought to America against their will with Europeans and others who voluntarily immigrated to the country.

According to TheBlaze, in speaking about immigration and assimilation in general, Carson said, “There were other immigrants who came here in the bottom of slave ships, worked even longer, even harder for less. But they too had a dream that one day their sons, daughters, grandsons, granddaughters, great-grandsons, great-granddaughters, might pursue prosperity and happiness in this land.”

As could be expected, the conservative neurosurgeon was chastised and mocked viciously for the comment, with everything from his intelligence to his authenticity as a black man being questioned.

Yet, former President Barack Obama, the absolute scion of the American left, made almost the exact same remark just a little more than a year ago during a naturalization ceremony for new citizens in December 2015.

“Certainly, it wasn’t easy for those of African heritage who had not come here voluntarily, and yet, in their own way were immigrants themselves. There was discrimination and hardship and poverty,” Obama said.

Nor was that an isolated incident, as Obama also said something similar during a speech in 2012 during which he described America as “a nation of immigrants.”
