Congressman Proposes Radical Solution to the Rising Cost of Health Care: ‘Deport the Illegal Immigrants’

Many of the Republicans in Congress — and President Donald Trump himself — campaigned on a promised to repeal and replace Obamacare. Americans, facing record-setting premium increases under former President Obama’s signature legislation, provided the GOP with an advantage in the House, the Senate, and even the White House.

But now that a replacement plan has been proposed, a number of conservatives are saying that it doesn’t go far enough to undo the damage wrought by the original — and that it still amounts to an entitlement.

One of those conservatives, Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL), took it a step further and told CNN that the American Health Care Act represented the largest welfare program ever proposed by the Republican party.

He doubled down during a follow-up interview on March 14 and tied the rising cost in health care to illegal immigration. He explained to host John Berman, as reported by Mediaite:

“And one of the best things to help increase wages for working Americans is to deport the illegal aliens that have flooded the marketplace,” he noted. “Suppressing wages for all Americans and, in addition to that, those illegal aliens have taken job opportunities from American citizens.”

Brooks added that if you “deport illegal aliens,” you decrease the labor supply, forcing employers to pay more for workers. And, thus, average Americans will be able to better afford healthcare coverage.

Brooks added that although he would like to see as many Americans as possible insured, he wasn’t going to support any mandates: “We believe in liberty and freedom. If you’re going to believe in liberty and freedom, then you cannot with a heavy boot of the federal government force people to purchase insurance.”
