Privilege often comes with great burden.
Blessed with an abundance of riches, both genetically and financially, LeBron James’ oldest son has to endure endless comparisons to his old man every time he steps on a basketball court.
As insane as it might be, at 12-years-old, LeBron James Jr., much like his father, has lived up to the hype. Each YouTube highlight released of James Jr., as he travels the country on the youth basketball circuit, proves he too is a prodigious talent able to score at will but more than willing to feed his teammates.
This past weekend, James Jr. participated in former NBA coach and player John Lucas’ all-star weekend event, somewhat of a right of passage for the top middle school players in America, and showcased his penchant for pinpoint passing and precision ball handling. He also displayed he can knock down the triple with proficiency, be it off the dribble or in catch-and-shoot situations, drawing the highest of praise from his pops.
“We do a great job. My son, and his team and his program, they do a great job of teaching him the right way,” James Sr told Cleveland.com. “I didn’t handle the ball as well as he does. He handles the ball exceptionally well and he shoots it a lot better than I did at that age, but I’ve always had the ability to pass the ball and it’s good to see him doing it as well.”
No doubt, he’s got the skills, but if Jr. is on schedule to equal, if not exceed, his father’s achievements, he’s got about a year and some change to start matching his dad’s ridiculous athleticism and begin throwing them down. James Sr. first dunked at 13.
