MAJOR Obama-Era 2nd Amendment Ban REPEALED

When President Donald Trump is in the story, it’s stunning how selective the liberal media can be. Protecting our borders? Big show. Pipelines to create jobs? Mayhem! Civil rights? Pull out all the stops!!

Quietly restoring the constitutional rights of over 4 million U.S. citizens? That sound you here is, well, mostly silence.

On Tuesday, Trump signed House Joint Resolution 40, which repealed former President Barack Obama’s so-called “Social Security gun ban,” according to Guns.com.

On Dec. 19, 2016, then-President Barack Obama signed into law a bill requiring that the Social Security Administration submit its records of “representative payees,” people whose payments are funneled through a third party, to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System.

At that time, about 4.2 million Social Security recipients were deemed unable to manage their finances, according to the Los Angeles Times. Reasons could include mental capacity or even disease. In short, a 65-year-old with an eating disorder or lupus was Obama’s equivalent to a drug addict, illegal immigrant or felon.

Due process was a casualty of the Obama law, according to Breitbart. That’s the right deemed so important by the framers of our Constitution that it’s in both the Fifth and 14th amendments.

“We applaud the work Congress and the president have done to get rid of this unconstitutional rule that infringes on the rights of millions of gun owners. This was one of the biggest anti-gun legacies left behind by the Obama Administration, and its repeal is a big win for gun owners,” Dudley Brown, president of the National Association for Gun Rights, said in a statement.

In a letter to the Dallas Morning News on Tuesday, Rep. Sam Johnson, R-Texas, summarized the situation perfectly.

“Obama’s rule was wrong for two major reasons,” he wrote. “First, it ignored the fact that there are a wide range of mental impairments that qualify people for Social Security disability, including eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder and anxiety. Second, it violated people’s due process rights.”

Even the American Civil Liberties Union encouraged repeal of the bill.

“We oppose this rule because it advances and reinforces the harmful stereotype that people with mental disabilities, a vast and diverse group of citizens, are violent,” the group wrote in a letter to Congress. “There is no data to support a connection between the need for a representative payee to manage one’s Social Security disability benefits and a propensity toward gun violence.”

Amid all the media frenzy about minorities, women and immigrants, President Trump preserved the rights of Social Security recipients with the stroke of a pen. Big media story? Not so much.

All we are likely to hear is alarms going off that Trump just passed a law allowing mentally ill people to have firearms. Broad support from activists across the aisle, the ACLU, and mental health professionals proves this to be untrue.

The words in the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution are clear. “The right of the people to keep and bear arms SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED.” Any wording related to age, disability or financial management is conspicuously absent, because constitutional rights are for everyone — just ask any liberal.

Please post to Facebook and Twitter to let people know that President Trump is keeping his promises to restore our constitutional rights.
