Halal is a type of meat that comes from an animal that is slaughtered by having its throat sliced in order to drain it of blood because apparently, Muslims believe blood is bad for you. Ok, whatever beliefs you have are your own personal problem. If a company doesn’t adhere to your standards then there is one simple solution. Don’t eat there.
McDonald’s, KFC, and Pizza Hut in Hong Kong have just said no to a request that they offer Islamic-certified halal meat.
Mufti Muhammad Arshad contacted the fast food chains to request that they use halal meat, claiming that it would be a shrewd business move.
If meat is “halal” it means that it comes from an animal slaughtered according to Islamic law. In order for that to be the case, Allah’s name is required to be pronounced during slaughter.
The animal must also be slit at the throat using a very sharp instrument, and they must not be unconscious at the time. After they are slaughtered, the animal has to be hung upside down and allowed to bleed dry.
Arshad sent letters to fast-food chains, and although none of the chains accepted, he states he is confident that it would only be a matter of time before they signed up.
“It’s disappointing that we could not convince the companies,” Arshad told reporters. “It doesn’t have to be Hong Kong-wide. In the main areas, like Central, Wan Chai, Tsim Sha Tsui, the New Territories and at the airport, it would be a great service. The companies have to realize there is a need for this and that it is good business for them.”
