Bango the Inflatable Buck is obviously the trick shot star of any game held in Milwaukee, but Ricky Rubio got to show off a bit on Saturday night.
Rubio let fly a wild shot that miraculously fell after running into Milwaukee Buck Jon Henson. The slick Minnesota Timberwolves point guard is more known for his deft passing than his shooting, but it takes a lot of balance and hand-eye coordination to even get a shot off while in motion and falling like that, let alone hitting the shot like that.
Rubio was the source of a good number of trade rumors before the deadline, but he’s still playing point for the Timberwolves as the season hits its late stage. His dazzling passes and overall struggles only make me think back to the 2009 Draft, when Rubio was taken fifth overall. The Wolves then drafted Syracuse standout Johnny Flynn, taking a pair of point guards before Steph Curry was taken by the Golden State Warriors. We all know how that’s turned out.
It’s not fair to really put any of that on Ricky Rubio, who is a fine player that’s fun to watch in moments like these. It is, however, telling that even cool moments like — once you take away the initial gloss of an improbable shot—many fans are left only wondering what could have been for the Timberwolves.
Anyway, Ricky Rubio’s no Bango the Inflatable Milwaukee Buck, but the kid can still make things happen out there when the time’s right.
