Despite the fact that Obamacare is widely regarded as a massive failure, the former president’s signature healthcare legislation somehow receives massive amounts of support on social media. How can it be that the Affordable Care Act has made health insurance a living nightmare for so many individuals and families, but yet, it is still so readily defended online? It doesn’t make any sense — until now.
According to digital expert Matthew Brown, people on social media are “being manipulated” to have certain opinions by a carefully orchestrated network of professionals who are literally paid to post favorably about Obamacare and defend the program against those who have had negative experiences with it. He made this shocking discovery after complaining online about his own experience with the ACA and deciding to investigate how it was possible that the program had so many supporters.
Brown sampled over 200,000 Facebook posts defending Obamacare and found that “sixty percent of all the posts were made from 100 profiles, posting between the hours of 9 and 5 Pacific Time.” These people were “paid to post.”
