Because the left and facts don’t mix, leftists have feebly attempted to compare Vice President Mike Pence’s use of private email as governor of Indiana to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s use of private servers to send and receive classified information. As White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders pointed out Friday, according to CNSNews, there is “light years of difference” between the two situations.
“Number one, he was a governor. He wasn’t a federal employee, which means the laws are different. It’s subject to Indiana law, not federal law,” Sanders explained. “Second, he’s a governor, which means he wasn’t handling classified info like she was, and third, all of his emails he turned over specifically to be archived, which is why anybody even knows about the account.”
She further noted that Pence “did everything to the letter of the law in Indiana, turned all of his emails over, unlike Hillary Clinton who lost at least 30,000 – who knows how many more – had a private server, classified information, which he didn’t have. That’s apples to oranges comparison.”
On Thursday, The Indy Star reported:
Emails released to IndyStar in response to a public records request show Pence communicated via his personal AOL account with top advisers on topics ranging from security gates at the governor’s residence to the state’s response to terror attacks across the globe. In one email, Pence’s top state homeland security adviser relayed an update from the FBI regarding the arrests of several men on federal terror-related charges.
Pence’s office released a statement on Thursday:
Similar to previous governors, during his time as Governor of Indiana, Mike Pence maintained a state email account and a personal email account. As Governor, Mr. Pence fully complied with Indiana law regarding email use and retention. Government emails involving his state and personal accounts are being archived by the state consistent with Indiana law, and are being managed according to Indiana’s Access to Public Records Act.
Pence spokesman Marc Lotter further explained, according to the Indy Star, that as governor, Pence did not handle federally classified information (unlike Clinton) and in contrast to Clinton’s actions, he used a popular consumer email provider, not a private server in his residence as Clinton did.
Sanders was asked whether or not Pence uses private email in his capacity as vice president, and she noted that while she was unsure, she said that “I know that we’ve all had the training and security on ethics training. I know that the vice president is following the law as it’s required.”
