In case you needed a reminder of what love really means, this photo will do it for you. Seventeen-year-old Mackenna Newman shared a touching photo of her father, John, sitting outside of her mother’s bedroom.
“My mom has to stay in her room in isolation for her cancer radiation so my dad set up a desk at her door to keep her company and I’m crying,” she tweeted.

After undergoing surgery to remove the cancer, Marci underwent a five-day radioactive iodine treatment to kill any other cancerous thyroid cells. However, her treatment meant she had to go into isolation in her bedroom to avoid exposing her family to the radiation.
“On the first day my dad sat outside in the backyard and talked to her through the window,” Mackenna told CBS, adding, “The last two days is when he set up the little desk to stay with her.”
Since posting the photo, Mackenna has received hundreds of messages of support, but she said it’s not surprising to her that her father would go to such lengths to make sure her mother didn’t feel alone. “This is how our family is. We take care of each other,” she said.
