Trump Takes a Flyer on Hawaiian Judge During Nashville Rally: ‘Unprecedented Judicial Overreach’

Just hours after news broke on March 15 that Hawaiian U.S. District Judge Derrick Watson had issued a restraining order against his newest immigration order, President Donald Trump responded.

The president had been traveling all day, speaking in Michigan in the afternoon and then heading to Nashville.

He paused to pay his respects at the grave of President Andrew Jackson, on what would have been the war hero’s 250th birthday:

Donald J. Trump

And then he headed into Nashville for a campaign-style rally:

Donald J. Trump

In Nashville, Tennessee! Lets MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

During his remarks, however, President Trump took a moment to respond to the Hawaiian court’s ruling. The Washington Times reported:

President Trump said the federal judge’s order halting his revised extreme vetting policy was “an unprecedented judicial overreach,” as he rallied supporters in Tennessee Wednesday night.

Mr. Trump said the law gives him the power to determine who is admitted to the country, and said judges shouldn’t have the power to constrain him when it comes to his national security powers.

President Trump went on to promise a fight, saying that he would take his order to the Supreme Court if necessary.
