Whoopi Goldberg shared an alarming anecdote on Monday about a “fake news” story that she says endangered her life and those of her family.
The long-time host of “The View” shared the disturbing details about a website that ran a made-up story, regarding her and veterans, that was shared many times. Whoopi called it a “horrible lie,” and warned the publisher that she is getting her lawyer and that she is “coming for you.”
Goldberg even floated legislation that would stipulate that a “fake news” writer would have to get the permission of the subjects before running a story. It is unclear how such legislation would work in practices, but Goldberg was understandably concerned about the story.
“Clearly, you don’t care what could’ve happened to me or to my family,” she added about the perpetrator, threatening, ”Man, I’m telling you, you cost me money because I had to protect my family… Costa Rica’s not big enough for this lawsuit that’s coming your way.”
