The clock is ticking, Knicks fans.
As the countdown to the 2017 NBA trade deadline reaches its final hours, the Knicks must decide whether or not to conduct a fire sale. While all eyes are on Carmelo Antony trade rumors, he’s not the only high-profile player that could be moved on Thursday.
Point guard Derrick Rose could be on the move to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The possible return? Point guard Ricky Rubio, via Ian Begley of ESPN.
The Minnesota Timberwolves have reached out to the Knicks recently to discuss potential trades for New York point guard Derrick Rose, sources told ESPN.
Rose, a free agent this summer, played for seven seasons in Chicago, including five under current Timberwolves and ex-Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau.
It is unclear what Minnesota would offer in a potential trade for Rose. Sources say the Timberwolves are motivated to trade veteran point guard Ricky Rubio, as team president and coach Thibodeau sees rookie Kris Dunn as the point guard of the future for Minnesota.
The Timberwolves, sources say, are among several teams to reach out to the Knicks asking about potential trades for Rose.
Rumors of a Rubio connection to the Knicks and Rose trade away from New York were both present in recent weeks, but now are connected in the days leading up to the deadline.
As for Anthony, he is playing it cool on Wednesday, according to ESPN’s Ian Begley:
“If something is going to happen it’s going to happen. I haven’t heard anything as of right now, so that’s not something that I’m concerned about.”
