Despite retailers dropping her clothing line, Ivanka’s brands are seeing the “best performing weeks” ever
It seems that a lot of people have taken Kellyanne Conway’s advice on Fox News to “go buy Ivanka’s stuff,” because, despite being dropped by more than 10 major retailers, sales of the Ivanka Trump brand have made an impressive spike.
#GrabYourWallet, an online campaign that started in October after Donald Trump’s infamous Billy Bush interview, called for a boycott of Ivanka’s line early on, as well as any retailers that carried Trump-affiliated products. The campaign was widely successful, causing big name retailers such as Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus to discontinue sales of Ivanka products — and demonstrating the power of the female consumer.
However, the campaign’s reign seems to be coming to an end. Last week Ivanka’s online sales skyrocketed, making a 332 percent jump on Amazon in January and February, compared to the same months in 2016. Other retailers that still sell Ivanka products online also saw a sizable spike. Macy’s saw a 148 percent increase in January and February sales, compared to the same months last year.
Abigail Klem, who took over as acting president of the Ivanka Trump brand when its founder stepped down, said that they were seeing “some of the best performing weeks in the history of the brand” since the beginning of February.
The recent surge in Ivanka sales could be partly attributed to the press that the brand has been getting. As the old saying goes “there’s no such thing as bad publicity,” and that seems to be holding true for Ivanka. After being dropped by Nordstrom, her father tweeted his disappointment with the company, and praised his daughter for pushing him to “do the right thing.”
My daughter Ivanka has been treated so unfairly by @Nordstrom. She is a great person — always pushing me to do the right thing! Terrible!
The spike in sales also seems to have inspired at least one retailer to have a change of heart. Neiman Marcus, which previously dropped Ivanka’s line, announced on Thursday that they would be bringing it back.
